Curriculum Vitae Studied German linguistics & literature at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, Germany with a focus on language criticism; studied music in parallel at Musikhochschule Freiburg. Completed studies with teaching degree for secondary schools.
Technical experience: Temporary line worker at Mercedes-Benz automobile plant and at BASF video cassette factory. Continued university education in USA, earning an M.A. degree. Financed studies by working in various jobs: As a stage technician (1 year, designed and set-up a complete computer-controlled, mobile stage lighting system); as a technician at a wind turbine factory (4.5 years), gained experience in fibre glass manufacturing as well as machining, welding, field maintenance. Accepted various assignments of several months to assist an expert maintenance technician from Germany in rebuilding large CNC-controlled machining centres.
Began translating in 1989 and built a large client base rapidly thanks to comprehensive technical experience. Joined the American Translators Association (ATA) and passed accreditation exams for both German to English and English to German translation.
Returned to Germany in 1995, after more than 8 years in USA. Passed State Examination for Translators and joined the German translators association BDÜ. Sworn translator entitled to provide certified translations. Expanded fields of expertise to include marketing, law and corporate communications. In response to client demand, began providing copywriting services in both languages, initially with a focus on IT. Eventually added bilingual journalistic work for industrial publications, primarily in the fields of IT, shipbuilding and shipping.
Moved to Regensburg, Bavaria in 2002. Joined the editorial team of an agency producing customer magazines for Germany's leading ship classification society in 2007. Sub-editor for English texts on maritime, oil & gas and renewable energy-related subjects. Major website copywriting assignments, e.g. for a leading provider of industrial lighting. Regular editorial work for the world's leading ship classification society and other clients. Assignments as an English language coach for non-native technical writers.
